Simple Machines: Compound Machine Design Project

Note: I filmed this last year when I was planning to be absent from school, so that's why I'm talking as if you were listening in class. Please just pretend I am teaching this to you in person at school.

Please watch the two videos below and then read about the assignment.

Compound Machine Design Project (teaching during absence on 4/28/2014) - Mr. Riedl on YouTube

OK Go - This Too Shall Pass - Rube Goldberg Machine on YouTube

Assignment:
You will need to make your own Compound Machine Design. Over the 3-day weekend, you will do a rough draft of what I talked about in my video. You can draw it on a normal sheet of white paper and then we will share our rough drafts on Monday. It must include all six simple machines, like I mentioned in the video. If you want to do it with a partner, you must work together to make one large machine, with six simple machines in each of your drawings, and you must be able to put them side-by-side to see how the machine works as a whole. You will have time in class to work on the final machine, and the due date for that will be given to you in class.

Let me know if you have any questions! Feel free to email me.

Sincerely,
--Mr. Riedl
