The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle
by Hugh Lofting
This book is about a kind little man named John Dolittle, and his assistant naturalist, Tommy Stubbins. Dr. Dolittle can speak the languages of most animals. Little Tommy also learns some of them from an African Parrot named Polynesia. During that time, the Hermit, Luke is in a trial for killing a man in a gold mine. However, since his Bulldog, Bob is the only truthful one who saw the action, the doctor translates the entire story. The court finds out the truth about what happened, and it was an accident, but in a way, the bulldog’s fault. Back in his house, Dr. Dolittle and Tommy see Miranda, the Purple Bird of Paradise, all the way from Brazil, and speak to her about Long Arrow. Later, the Doctor and Tommy need to find someone to go on a voyage with them, but who will they find? Find out later by reading The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle yourself!
